Useful Information for Choir Members

Rehearsals for the autumn concert (The English Connection from Byrd to the Beatles) start on Monday 2nd September. Details of the music to be included are given below.

Based on suggestions from choir members the spring concert will be a programme of French music with the main piece Poulenc's Gloria (see below for dates). Also we have an exciting plan to perform Handel's Messiah in November 2020 (date and venue to be confirmed).

Music for our Autumn Concert – “The English Connection – from Byrd to the Beatles”.
The programme has not yet been finalised, but here is a list of some of the music we will definitely be singing.

Tallis: If ye love me

Purcell: Dido’s lament (with the chorus that follows)

        In these delightful pleasant groves

Madrigals, including: Now is the month of Maying

In going to my naked bed
April is in my mistress’ face
            Weep O mine eyes

Elgar:    As torrents in summer

My love dwelt in a northern land

Grainger:    Seventeen come Sunday

Finzi:    My spirit sang all day

    Clear and gentle stream (possibly)

Sullivan:    The long day closes

Parry:        I was glad

        Jerusalem

Also, the Beatles medley we have previously sung, and two other arrangements of pop songs. Possibly also some Gilbert and Sullivan
